While on a yoga retreat in Peru, my friend Brian Mahan, Enlightened Concierge's CEO, discovered something as impressive as Machu Pichu itself, Mama Kia, an amazing woman, with an inspirational story, which he brought back and shared with me.

After meeting Mama Kia, Brian learned that, not only has she adopted (now 31) children off the streets of Peru, but she has also established a soup kitchen, Sopa de Dia, that feeds 88 children and elderly twice a day. She renovated a pre-existing structure, which was in ruins, installed a kitchen with new floors, roof and windows; outfitted the kitchen with the basic necessities; and planted a sustainable organic farm, involving the children at a local school all along the way.
The school children help with the farming, meal preparation and serve the less fortunate children and elders in their community. Meals are hand delivered by the same children to those unable to make it to the soup kitchen.
The children are:
Being introduced to a wide variety of produce
Learning organic sustainable farming techniques
Improving their health and nutrition
Taking this knowledge home to their families
Learning the importance of giving back to
their communities
